The Whitman bibliography is one of the most powerful and important tools on the Walt Whitman Archive. With the generous permission of Donald Kummings, editor of Walt Whitman, 1940-1975: A Reference Guide (G.K. Hall, 1982), we have expanded the on-line, searchable database of published works about Whitman back to the 1850s. In 2009-10 we added entries from Scott Giantvalley's Walt Whitman, 1838-1939: A Reference Guide (Boston: G. K. Hall, 1981), taking the Archive's bibliography all the way back to Whitman's time.
Ongoing editing of the bibliography is performed at the University of Nebraska - Lincoln, and newly published works are entered by the staff of the Walt Whitman Quarterly Review at the University of Iowa.
